WHEN MEDICATION IS NECESSARY:
At Commerce Psychiatric Services, we recommend that most people begin psychotherapy before considering a trial of psychiatric medications. Studies find psychotherapy can reduce the underlying cause of symptoms therefore resolving the need for psychiatric medication treatment.
However, sometimes emotional symptoms can become more severe and can interfere in the process of talk therapy, this could require an earlier medication intervention. Medications are usually time limited, however for some chronic conditions a longer treatment is needed.
