Psychiatric Medication In Detroit, MI
Psychiatric Medication is an important treatment modality prescribed at our office by Dr. Roth, a board certified psychiatrist and graduate psychoanalyst as well as board certified psychiatric nurse practitioners Anne Zamler, Kat Mikol and Angela Chernyak. Psychiatric medications can be extremely effective in the treatment of depression, anxiety, mood swings, attention disorders, psychosis and a number of other conditions.
It is our philosophy that patients who are taking psychiatric medications should also be working with a therapist targeting improved emotional strength so they would be most likely better able to discontinue medication treatment sooner.
Psychiatric medications are not without risk of side effects, however the benefit most frequently is more significant and side effects often can be managed with dose reductions or alternative medication options. Treatment is individualized with your medication provider.
The primary classes of psychiatric medications include:
Antidepressant medications: SSRI's i.e. Zoloft, Prozac, Paxil, Celexa, Lexapro; SNRI's i.e. Effexor and Cymbalta.
Antianxiety medications: Benzodiazepines i.e. Xanax, Klonopin among others and Non-Benzodiazepine Buspar. Antidepressants are also very effective antianxiety medications.
Mood stabilizing medications: Lithium, Depakote, Lamictal
Antipsychotic medications: Abilify, Seroquel, Vraylar, Zyprexa, Risperidone among others
ADHD medications: Ritalin (Methylphenidate) derivatives and Adderall (Dextroamphetamine) derivatives as well as non-stimulant medications such as Strattera
